The importance of billet families to the Wolves organization is immeasurable. Without billets, we could not put a team on the ice! The goal of billet families is to provide an environment of support and trust with the players, giving them a home away from home.
Billeting FAQ
What is a billet family?
Many players leave home to play Junior hockey. A billet or host family provides a home where a player lives during the season. This is a player’s home away from home.
Are billet families paid?
A monthly pre-established fee per player is paid directly to the billet family. This helps with additional household expenses, especially groceries.
What is a typical ‘host‘ family?
A host family can be a two-parent household, a single-parent household, or even “empty nesters“. The most important quality is a genuine desire to make a difference in a player’s life.
What does a billet family provide?
Room: A private, furnished bedroom – similar to a dorm room. Players should not share a room with younger members of the host family.
Meals: Basic meals – Billet families are responsible for three meals per day, with the primary expectation being dinner. While we understand that home-cooked meals may not always be possible, every effort should be made to provide them whenever feasible.
Monitoring of Behaviour: Ensuring that each player complies with Team Rules and Regulations
Transportation: Players must provide their transportation unless a billet host family chooses to provide it. It is highly recommended that players not be allowed to drive a billet host family vehicle.
Will a player stay for the holidays?
Players usually return home once or twice per season, depending on the schedule.
How will the billet player fit into our family?
The Wolves organization works hard to match players with compatible families. In rare cases where compatibility is an issue, the Billet Coordinator will work with both parties to resolve the situation smoothly.
What kind of support will I be provided?
The Billet Coordinator will be your primary contact for questions or concerns and will support your family.
