‘Great hockey’: Renfrew Wolves, fans excited for upcoming season

Friday, September 24, 2021

It’s been a long time coming and the Renfrew Junior A Wolves couldn’t be more excited to get the inaugural regular season going.

Pandemic restrictions last year prevented the new team from getting a regular season off the ground.

The season kicks off tonight in Smiths Falls and the home opener is set for Saturday, Sept. 25, at the Ma-Te-Way Activity Centre when the Wolves will take on the Rockland Nationals.

Both games start at 7:30 p.m. and tomorrow’s home opener will kick off with a puck drop ceremony.

“It’s finally here, it’s exciting,” said head coach/general manager Ryan Leonard, noting the team is coming off a great exhibition season.

Fan Nick Lewis brought daughters Alaina, 7, and Aubry, 11, to a public skate with the players Thursday afternoon. Players autographed the girls’ helmets and chatted with the family.

“I just got my season’s tickets today,” said Lewis. “We’ve been to every game we could get to and it’s great hockey.”

Season’s tickets are still available. Games are broadcast on 96.1 MyFM.
