Wolves Drop Opening Weekend

It’s not the start to the season the Renfrew Wolves were hoping for. After falling to the Canadians on Saturday night, the Wolves were hoping for a bounce-back performance last night. Carleton Place found the back of the net twice in the first period but the Wolves found their legs in the second. Theodoros Dimopoulos scored at 1:57 on the power play to bring the game back to within one. CP, however, would answer about a minute later to regain the two-goal lead. Dimopoulos would later add his second marker of the game at 11:21 and Dane Carter would add another at 16:31. Unfortunately, that would be all the offense Renfrew would generate, as the Canadians would tally three unanswered goals in the third to seal the 6-3 win. Netminder Viacheslav Gordeichuk carried most of the load between the pipes for Renfrew, making 28 saves in the loss. The Wolves get most of this week off before welcoming their Highway 17 rival, the Pembroke Lumber Kings to the MAC on Saturday night. Game time is 7:30.
